Emma Toschka was born in Diez, Germany, in 1997. In 2021, she completed her Bachelor's degree in Cultural Studies with a thesis titled ”Deconstruction of the Other: An Artistic Exploration of the Human-Animal Dualism”. She then studied Fine Arts in Rome, focusing particularly on an interdisciplinary approach combining Human-Animal Studies and Performance Art.
She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Cultural Studies at the University of Leipzig. Since 2024, she has also been studying at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig, in the Class for Performative Arts.
In her performative practice she's working with human and non-human bodies. Using traces of bodies such as spun human hair, the sound of bat colonies, or the footsteps of stalking Komodo dragons.
Inspired by the theoretical thinkers like Jane Bennett and Rosi Braidotti consistently exploring ways of critical posthumanist thinking and embodying. Outside of her studies, she works as a curatorial assistant at SLUG, an interdisciplinary platform focused on supporting identities and practices underrepresented in the art and performance worlds.
She also works as an author and editor for a Leipzig-based online philosophy magazine. ❦  -  e. t
